Treat Yourself!

Everyone deserves a sweet treat, whether at the end of a long school week or in the middle of the day because you got that promotion you’ve been working so hard for! Or perhaps you just need to fulfill that sweet tooth craving that’s been driving you nuts! No matter the reason there is a dessert for you. The point we’re trying to make here is, it is always time for cake! Or a delightful treat that you can put together yourself. Baking from the comforts of your own home is the best part; you can pour yourself a glass of wine, throw on some tunes, and get to baking up some yummy treats. And, in this ‘Do It Yourself’ era why not be a masterful baker, at home. Since we’re on the subject still, we think you should try your hand at one of the lovely recipes we have agreed are the best cakes to indulge in.

We at Personal Touch Experience have collected a few of our favorite cake recipes to share, because you are not a good friend if you don’t share your decadent discoveries! From strawberry shortcake s’mores to round out this sweltering summer or a mudslide cake you’d think fell from the heavens, there is a treat for you to fall in love with. Fun tip though, don’t be afraid to make these recipes your own, play with the flavors and build in to your liking. If you’ve ever dreamt of the perfect cake you can easily make it happen in your own kitchen. Then you kick up your feet and enjoy the fruits of your labor. Treat yourself, well!

Ingredients

  • For the shortcakes
    • 1 ½ cup all-purpose flour
    • 1 teaspoon baking powder
    • ½ teaspoon baking soda
    • ¼ teaspoon of salt
    • 3 tablespoons of cold unsalted butter, cubed
    • ½ cup plain nonfat greek yogurt
    • 2 tablesppoons nonfat milk
    • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • For the chocolate drizzle
    • 6 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
    • 4 tablespoons + 1 teaspoon nonfat milk
    • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • For the S'mores
    • ¾ cup sliced strawberries (about 9 medium)
    • 9 marshmallows rergular sized (not miniature or jumbo)

Ingredients

  • For the cake
    • 1 cup Kahlua liquor
    • 4 tablespoons light sour cream
    • 2½ cups all-purpose flour, sifted
    • ¾ cup Hershey’s Special dark chocolate cocoa powder, sifted
    • 1½ teaspoon baking powder
    • ¼ teaspoon salt
    • ¾ cup unsalted butter, melted
    • ¼ cup vegetable oil
    • 2 cups granulated sugar
    • 5 large eggs
    • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • For the frosting
    • 2 tablespoons hot water
    • 1 teaspoon instant espresso powder
    • 2 cups (4 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
    • 1 cup Hershey’s Special dark chocolate cocoa powder, sifted
    • 8 cups powdered sugar
    • 3 tablespoons Kahlua or Baileys
    • 1 teaspoons vanilla extract
    • Pinch of salt
  • For the ganache
    • 6 ounces dark chocolate chips
    • 2 to 3 tablespoons Kahlua or Baileys

    • 1/2 cup sugar
    • 2 tbsp milk
    • 2 tsp coconut extract
    • 1 1/4 cups heavy whipping cream, cold
    • 1/2 cup powered sugar
  • Strawberry  Ice Cream
    • 8 oz cream cheese, room temperature
    • 1/4 cup sugar
    • 2 tbsp milk
    • 1/2 tsp strawberry extract, optional
    • 1/2 cup strawberry filling, above
    • 1 cup heavy whipping cream, cold
    • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
    • 3 drops pink food coloring
  • Key Lime Ice Cream
    • 8 oz cream cheese, room temperature
    • 1/4 cup sugar
    • 2 tbsp milk
    • 1/2 cup key lime filling, above
    • 1 cup heavy whipping cream, cold
    • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
    • 7 drops lime green food coloring

    • 1 cup (130g) all purpose flour
    • 1 cup (207g) sugar
    • 6 tbsp (43g) Hershey’s Special Dark Cocoa
    • 1 1/2 tsp (8g) baking soda

    • 1/2 cup (120ml) hot coffee
    • 6 tbsp (90ml) milk
    • 6 tbsp (90ml) vegetable oil
    • 3/4 tsp vanilla extract
    • 1 large egg, room temperature

  • Toasted Coconut Ice Cream
    • 1 cup (76g) coconut, divided
    • 12 oz (339g) cream cheese, room temperature

    • 3 tbsp (45ml) milk
    • 1 tbsp coconut extract
    • 1 3/4 cups (420ml) heavy whipping cream, cold
